The Alaska-Yukon

The Alaska-Yukon North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA) Chapter is the newest sanctioned NAVHDA Chapter in Alaska. It operates as a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation which supports geographically dispersed members throughout Alaska and the Yukon Territory.

Our goals are to conduct yearly NAVHDA sanctioned test, host professional training clinics, conduct member led training events and provide the resources to enhance the training of the versatile hunting dog.

Our mission is to create a positive environment to build camaraderie among our members, while providing training and testing opportunities to develop fully trained versatile hunting dogs. We also fully support and assume the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Associations (NAVHDA) purpose; which is to foster, promote, and improve the versatile hunting dog breeds in North America; to conserve game by using well trained reliable hunting dogs on both land and water; and to aid in the prevention of cruelty to animals by discouraging non selective and uncontrolled breeding, which produces unwanted and uncared for dogs.

About Us

We are centered in the Mat-Su area with members stretching as far as Seward, Fairbanks and the Yukon Territory. Our membership has a mix of experienced and novice handlers who love working together to share their knowledge and experience in the development of our versatile hunting dogs.   Our members goals vary, some are passionate hunters and trainers who are striving for a NAVHDA prize and others are simply interested in improving their dogs hunting skills. Most are drawn by the camaraderie of like-minded folks and love for versatile hunting dogs.    Whatever your interest or level of experience, we will help you achieve the best for you and your dog.

What do you get for being a member?

As a member of Alaska-Yukon Chapter you will meet new friends dedicated to helping you train your dog to be the versatile hunting companion you desire. The chapter hosts a series of member led and professional training clinics during the winter and summer months which are available to chapter members. Depending on your location, there are skilled trainers in the chapter who are happy to assist you with training on other days if you cannot attend the training events. When training with us you will gain knowledge and access to training grounds, game birds for training, and a gun dog test to measure your dog's stock as a versatile gun dog. You will have access to this website, Facebook, chapter emails, family events, and meetings to inform you about NAVHDA and chapter activities.
